Device verification

When you sign in on a new device, the app needs to make sure it is really you.

Why

Conversations are end-to-end encrypted, so a password alone is not enough to read them. A new device gets access to the keys only after you confirm that it belongs to you.

How

• With another device: confirm the sign-in on a device where you are already signed in.
• With your recovery key: enter your recovery key.

I have neither

You can reset the account's cryptographic identity. You regain access to the account, but you will not be able to read old encrypted messages, and your contacts will see an identity change warning.

The first device of a new account is verified automatically.
