History visibility

This room setting decides whether a new person can see messages from before they joined.

How it works

You can choose whether history is visible to new members, or whether everyone sees only messages from the moment they joined (or were invited). In encrypted rooms, older messages are available to a new person only if their keys are shared with them.

Keep in mind

• Changing the setting applies to the room for all its members.
• Someone who has already seen messages can save or copy them; this setting does not undo that.
