Contact identity change
The app warns you when the cryptographic identity of someone you talk to has changed.
What it means
Every account has a cryptographic identity. It changes when someone resets their keys, for example after losing their phone and recovery key. Usually this is harmless, but the same warning would appear if a third party took over the account.
What to do
- Contact the person through another trusted channel (in person, by phone) and ask whether they reset their account.
- If they did, you can verify them again or accept the change.
- If they did not, do not share confidential information and tell the server administrator.
